Frequently Asked Questions
Quick, plain-English answers to the questions we get asked most often.
What is Grey Market Premium (GMP)?
GMP is the unofficial premium at which IPO shares trade in the grey market before listing, ahead of the price band. It is often used as an informal indicator of listing-day sentiment, though it is not tracked or regulated by any exchange.
Is grey market trading legal in India?
Grey market trading happens outside recognised stock exchanges and is not regulated by SEBI. It exists in an informal, unregulated space, so any figures quoted should be treated as indicative only, not as investment advice.
How is GMP percentage calculated?
GMP % is calculated as (GMP ÷ issue price) × 100. For example, a GMP of ₹120 on a ₹475 issue price works out to roughly 25%, giving a rough sense of expected listing gains.
Does a high GMP guarantee listing gains?
No. GMP reflects sentiment at a point in time and can change quickly, including dropping to zero or turning negative before listing. Actual listing price depends on real demand-supply on listing day and broader market conditions.
How do I check my IPO allotment status?
Once the basis of allotment is finalised, you can check your status using your PAN, application number, or DP/Client ID on the registrar's website or through our IPO Allotment page once results are published.
